Multifaith Living Community

The Multifaith Living Community (MLC) at CA House is a unique living environment for 40 students who seek to live in ways that honor others and the earth. Students of all faiths, or no faith, are eligible to apply. The community consists of 6 townhouses situated around a central courtyard on the Cal Aggie Christian Association property directly across from campus on Russell Boulevard.

The townhouses were built in 2008. All are accessible on the first floor, and all have full kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms and laundry facilities within the unit. Four townhouses have 6 bedrooms and 3 full baths, and 2 townhouses have 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. Each townhouse has an outside patio for residents’ use. Residents in the MLC have the opportunity to take advantage of the programming features and resources available through CA House.

Construction in the MLC has utilized many green building features, and residents are encouraged to take advantage of our proximity to campus and downtown by using alternative modes of transportation. Bike parking is available for all residents.

In each townhouse:

  • Primarily single bedrooms, bathroom shared with one other person
  • Green construction throughout
  • Marmoleum floors in main common areas and bathrooms, carpet in bedrooms, hallways and stairs
  • Dining room table and chairs provided
  • Energy efficient washer and dryer units
  • Outdoor patio area
  • Full kitchen with oak cabinets
  • Professionally designed interiors and color schemes

For the entire Community:

  • Free weekly vegetarian, kosher-style and halal community meal
  • Other community meals and socials
  • On site management
  • Use of community space inside main building
  • Access to a diverse list of spiritual mentors
  • Opportunities for service with community
  • Retreats, classes, other programming

Please feel free to contact us regarding any specific questions about the community. We welcome your inquiries!

Living at the Multifaith Living Community

Selection to be a resident is based upon completion of an application including basic personal information, personal responses to two essay questions, three references, and an interview. If you are selected as a resident and choose to live at the MLC you will be required to sign a Lease Agreement. Applications may be submitted online, or printed out and brought to the Office in person, emailed to CA House at the address listed on the application, or mailed to 433 Russell Boulevard, Davis, CA 95616.

Applications for the 2017-2018 Lease Period are Being Accepted Now

Rent for the September 1, 2017 through August 31, 2018 lease period is $730/month for a single ($650 for income qualified students – see reduced rent below) or $430/month/per person for double occupancy (limited availability). City of Davis water and trash/recycling/compost pickup, community dinners, and program services are all included in the rental fee. PG&E expenses are divided among housemates and deducted from your deposit on a monthly basis.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until rooms are filled. Applications are reviewed once they are submitted and complete. If your application is approved, you will be contacted within 2 business days following receipt of your application to set up an interview. You will be notified within one week of your interview if you will be offered a space in the community.

You are encouraged to come to one of our Wednesday night community dinners, each Wednesday at 6:00 pm, where you can find out more about CA House and meet current residents and participants. Everyone is welcome for dinner – it’s a great way to get to know CA House. To explore CA House with a staff member or to schedule a tour, contact us to set up a time. More information about how you can get involved in CA House can be found on our programs page. Thanks for your interest!

Resident Agreement

Based on our common values and hopes, the MLC Resident Agreement outlines the commitments we make to one another as members of an intentional community. CA House pursues equal housing opportunities and does not discriminate based on race, national origin, religion, gender, familial status, sexual orientation, or physical ability. Furthermore, an environment that honors the diversity of each individual is highly valued and consciously created.

Parking

Our location makes alternative transportation to campus and downtown quite possible and easy. On-site parking (some covered) is available for $35 a month. Residents owning a car must purchase a CA House parking space and sign a year-long parking lease; neighborhood parking is not allowed. All residents with a parking space must display a CA House permit.

Reduced Rent

Each year, CA House offers a limited number of rooms at reduced rents for students who qualify for Pell grants or meet other income requirements. For the 2017-18 school year, these rents are $650 per month. All students who think they could be eligible for reduced rents are strongly encouraged to inquire.

Applying

You may submit your application online or print out a copy below. You will be asked to sign an application submitted online during your interview. You will also be asked to sign a Resident Agreement at that time as well as submitting any supporting documentation such as a scholarship application or financial aid information.

Please feel free to contact us regarding any questions about the community or the application process.
